![]() ![]() The analyses of the coding scheme constituents, which are segmentation and cognitive action categories, allowed a comparative study demonstrating the effect of the use of different media in the conceptual design phase. In order to encode the design behavior, a coding scheme was utilized that allowed the inspection of both the design activity and the responses to media transition in terms of the primitive cognitive actions of designers. Empirical data on design processes have been obtained from protocol analyses of six interior designers solving an interior space-planning problem through media transition. This study aims at gaining an insight on designers’ cognitive processes while sketching in digital vs traditional media. It also gives light over the use of time and the influence of globalization on their concept of design. In general this study helps us to better understand the changes and impact that technology has had over the methodology of teaching and learning design. ![]() The results were almost identical, and they showed that students find CAD as a "very important" tool for drafting and not so for sketching. It is of interest the similarities found between this study and that reported by Hanna and Barber in 2003.They assessed the importance of CAD in different activities of design. ![]() B) On the educational field we found that 100% of the universities surveyed utilized CAD, the students feel that their professors are not properly trained in the latest technologies, they found no difference in the quality of design when using CAD or no technology at all. We also found that 99.3% have internet access, and 90.1% have it at home. A 100% of the students surveyed had access to a computer of these, only 1.4% does not have a computer at home. All the students surveyed were on their third or last year of the their studies The most relevant results were as follows: A) In the sociopolitical sphere found that Mexico City students don't seem to mind their dependence on foreign technologies. Each survey consisted of 65 questions we obtained a total of 141 questionnaires from students of 7 different universities and from 8 different disciplines whiten the field of design. The instruments utilized were sociological-type closed surveys. A quantitative analysis study on the attitudes of students in the area of design towards new CAD drawing and design was performed We find this study of great importance partly because the technological advances in this field do not mirror the advances in academic programs. ![]()
